Description:
We would like to change the exterior of our home. Currently, it is brown wood siding and which we do not like. The wood is difficult to maintain especially with all the wildlife. We are going for a modern, contemporary feel. Feel free to use google sketchup, sketch on top of, or photoshop the supplied photos of my home. This can be considered a ‘concept’ phase to determine colors, texture and overall shape.

Project Details: Add some sort of overhang over the front door. Maybe extend it toward the garage and think of a clean way to support the overhang. We are going to completely redo the front steps and entry so the silly deck can go. Feel free to be creative.
Notes:
1) Our trees leave lots of seeds, sap, etc. So in general, lots of white may not be a good idea.
2) Feel free to leave out the window in the basement next to the small front porch. It may or may not be shown in my images. I plan to remove this basement window.
3) I could go slightly larger for windows by extending them down toward the floor. I would prefer to keep the window widths the same, but increase the height by adding to the bottom. If making the windows longer helps your design, do it. Keeping them the same size is ok too.

Attached are some examples of homes that caught my eye. Hope this gives a sense of colors textures and the feel that I’m after.
Project deliverable: Create a computer generated sketch, or good hand sketch to visually show how the home would look.
Wants:
Designs judged based upon the cohesive look, whether it met the criteria and feasibility of the design. Extra credit if modern stairs and some simple landscaping included in sketch.
Software:
  1. Trimble SketchUp (Google)
  2. Chief Architect

Dear Sir,
You may go for a curtain wall installed some inches away from your actual house exterior. Glass is certainly clean, it will improve your home weather insulation and by all means, it is "modern".
It is not even necessary to have a design for it, just go to your local supplier of curtain wall and she gladly will make a design for you at no cost.

Looks like the floor plan never made it to the attachments.

I have added a sketch of the floor plan with some dimensions. I also uploaded some more images of the side and back of the house. I don't have an image of the right side of my home, however it's just the side of the garage. I leave for work when it's dark and get home when it's dark but I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow.

Lastly, I uploaded an one more example of a home filename: 'Similar shaped home.jpg'. I like the color, and the shape is similar to my house. Hope it helps!

If you can sketch the four facade of the house and put on them some dimensions ( like height , width, windows and doors ). All of this you can create on handwriting on the list of paper, and take photo on them , after that you can uploaded here in the website.

Hi torquewrench, what are the rooms behind the windows? e.g. main bedroom, lounge etc

Hello, and thank you for your input. I LOVE natural light and under most circumstances I would definitely add much larger windows without question. However, the front of the house faces the street it's nice to have some privacy as I have the rear of the house with lots of glass. The side and back of our house has 8 Sliding glass windows! It's also nice to have one wall that doesn't have windows to put beds and such. Does that make sense? I could make the windows a little larger though if you have a design that requires it. I'll see if I can get some images tomorrow for you.

The style that you are looking for usually has a lot of windows to allow for natural light. Are you willing to change the windows size requirements, since it looks like you have small windows?

Also, if you would please take pictures around the entire house with some overall dimensions, location and sizes of windows/doors/balconies/story levels/overhangs/stairs/driveway etc. It would really help give you a better understanding of the finish product could like.

Regards, Nick

I do not have 2D, however maybe I can create something for you. I have Solidworks - maybe I can export an outline of the front of the house. Is that what you're looking for? Let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.
