Description:
I would like a professional design for a workout machine prototype. I plan to push it into production soon. I attached two very basic drawings to give a super high level overview of what the machine *can* look like. Please review because there are important features in the mock ups that should be included, which is different from many other machines on the market. I’m open to different designs but it must function proficiently as a standing leg extension with the necessary features that are mentioned below. Here are details about the project:

- This is a standing leg extension machine.

- The material should be sturdy metal. A strong durable type of steel, something that’s commonly used with well made machinery is fine. It will need to be heavy so that it won’t move under load. The vertical steel supports should have holes on each square side so pegs can be installed if users want to incorporate resistance bands.

- Dimensions are as follows:
- 4 feet tall | 4 feet wide | 6 feet long. Top chest rest: 2 feet long. Bars with handles should be another foot in length, with ability to extend and retract. Small vertical bars should be 2 feet tall with extension and retraction functionality.

- The front of the machine should be longer to compensate for the weight in the rear.

- The steel should be adjustable meaning there should be an inner sleeve for each vertical bar to raise or lower the height. Also include this in the chest rest parallel bars.

- I also want a bi-way tilting option for the parallel chest rest so the individual can bend downward toward the ground or upward for exercise variance.

- There should be another bi-way tilting option at the bottom for the 4 foot vertical bar.

- There should be a supportive pad on the tall 4 foot bar to comfort the belly/ chest area during exercise.

- There will be two foot extensions, each with their own foot roller and supportive pads (two pads per extension). The extension mechanism should be welded into the steel so it’s strong and supported. It will also need to extend and retract to support users with short and long legs. I want it to be connected to the smaller parallel bar with an L shape toward the inner “swing area” of the machine. The end of the L will have a foot roller and right above the foot roller should be two 8” shin pads (one for the left side and another for the right side of the shin). This will support the leg more so, in order to keep the individual from relying on the foot roller alone to perform the extension.

- This will be a cable pulley machine (flat plates included) with a round plate loaded option as well. A peg on each side will be needed to accommodate the round plates.
Wants:
Since I desire to move this machine into production, the design will be key. I need this to compete with the looks and functionality of Life Fitness and Rogue Fitness products - please educate yourself with latest machine build designs and functionality. Must be familiar with equipment aesthetics and machinery, rotary pulls, hinges, bracketing, bearings, caps, support placement, and general machine build mechanics. Color of machine will be in the RGB color model #e59b9c.

Thank you for submissions! This really means a lot and looking forward to working with you.
Don't Wants:
Overly simple design. This can look cheap and commonplace. Machine should be sleek and robust. This should look and perform like a strong competitor in the strength training industry. Quick, average designs will not be enough. I desire to work with someone who has existing knowledge with machinery/engineering design to create a high performing product that is worth the financial investment. Designer thoughtfulness is required.

hi everyone, i am new here, i haves some questions about the loads which will be applied on the legs, do we have to provide place for discs ,mass or something else?

Hey, Fabrizio. Does the 6 ft length a fixed dimension, or is it a maximum?

Hey, so basically the mechanism for the machine is the reverse of the leg curl mechanism (legs swing from back to front, while leg curl is from front to back?)

Hey are you familiar with Consumer Product Safety Commission safety standards for fitness equipment? If you are selling this product in the US it may be important to know before making a decision.

It's not clear what you want your design to do. It is preferable if you tell us your wishlist of leg exercises you want to do with this machine and which muscles you want to develop with this machine. Then we, designers, will create one for you. You review each of our designs and provide feedback. A random Designer will eventually create a functional exercise machine that meet you expectations. You can then follow up with that designer, informing him or her of any upgrades or modifications you would like to make to his or her design.

Hi,
It would help a lot if you attached some inspiration images and video links with people performing the proposed exercise.
It is a project that requires a good analysis and will take a long time to execute, and we would like to be sure that we are starting with a project that is on the right track.

Hi Marka1, this will be a standing leg extension machine. The user will be mostly vertical on the machine with one leg bent at the knee, with his foot above a lever so that he can extend the lever on a downward rotational axis to work the quadricep muscle.

Hello, I will be drafting a design.

Based on the side view sketch, isn't this more of a standing leg curl machine than a standing leg extension machine?
I look forward to submitting a concept.

Hi Michael, you are correct with all your analyses, except for the machine resembling a cross country skiing motion. The motion is this. Standing leg extension of the quad. It will be accomplished by bending one leg, while standing up. That leg will have a foot roller in on the toe of the shoe and two shin pads sandwiching the shin. At this point, the individual will extend/ push the lever forward do that the leg is in a fully straight position at the climax of the movement. Think of the leg swinging from a bent position to a straight position.

Let me see if I understand what you are asking for; a standing exercise machine that is primarily designed for working the extensor muscle groups of the leg while supporting the upper body in a semi upright position. Is this correct? If so you describing something similar to a device that would mimic cross country skiing motion? Am I on the right track for what you are looking for?

KLEIN radio
A rugged 2-way radio without the bulk. View our current walkies at www.headsetusa.com and our rugged android phones at www.sonimtech.com. We need to design the look of a new 2-way radio to be true military spec yet not bulky with large "bumpers". Our goal is waterproof and able to be "dropped of a building" and not break apart.
One World Bracelet
We are designing a silicone bracelet that will consist of 14 equal-sized, interconnected sections. 7 of the bracelet sections will hold a small amount of water from each of the world’s 7 seas. The other 7 sections will contain small amounts of soil from the world’s 7 continents. The idea is that wearing a bracelet that contains samples of water and soil from around the world will make people feel more globally connected. The 7 sections that contain soil should be a light shade of brown and the sections that contain water should be a light shade of blue. We are open to each designer’s initial suggestions for specific colors to use and will provide feedback after receiving the initial designs. However, we would like both the brown and blue sections of the bracelet to be opaque (i.e. - non-translucent). Additionally, we would like to see two versions of the bracelet in all initial submissions…one that has the 7 sections of water on one side and the 7 sections of soil on the other side of the bracelet. And in the other version we would like to see alternating sections of soil, water, soil, water, etc. We will eventually have different sizes of the bracelet but for the initial design we can use a “medium” inner-circumference size of 7.5” (19 cm). We are looking to have a 3D CAD rendering for prototyping. We welcome feedback and submissions from designers who can suggest approaches for producing a bracelet like this that will need to have small amounts of water and soil injected into the bracelet sections at some point during or after the initial manufacturing process.
Angled Keyboard Slide
The design requires a clean simple method with minimized parts and manufacturing costs. Product is low volume, 250 to 500 pieces per year. We are interested in minimizing capital tooling costs. Design challenge is to design a keyboard slide platform that sits at a 32.5 degree angle (see attached documents). Keyboard slide needs to easily lock in upward position when not in use, and needs to easily be released and slide downward when in use. The keyboard slide is on a cart platform, so when the cart is being moved around, if it gets bumped, we do not want the keyboard slide to dislodge and slip into the down position.
Hydro-cooler bath CONVEYOR project
Project is to design a conveyor system to transfer a range a products into a hydro-cooling bath, and then transfer the product through the bath and out the other end. Attached is a some more notes of the project and images of the products. The contents of the Pails and Bladder is hot Jams and Sources etc. Currently we don't know the thickness of the bladders when fill of the products but we can find this out once we have awarded the project. The attached files are only ideas from our customer, they would prefer to have the maximum time of immersion in the bath. Max floor space available is 8m, so as close to 8m of immersion would be ideal. Someone that has done work with Hydro-cooling bath conveying or works for a company that builds this type of equipment will be a great help. Please let us know if you require more information from us before taking on this project.
Power SPDT Relay implemented with MOSFETS
I am currently using the following relay in a product: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/te-connectivity-potter-brumfield-relays/RT424024/PB969-ND/1095293 It is a DPDT, non-latching relay rated for 8A switching, and a 24Vdc coil voltage. The problem: The "clicking sound." This is for a home audio application, so we need it to be silent. I am looking for a silent version, using MOSFETS for example, built onto a daughter board (PCB) with the same footprint and pin-out as the relay. Note - I only need SPDT capability (I tie the two poles of the DPDT relay via on the board that the relay is installed onto). One side of the relay coil (pin 1) is always tied to 24V. And the other side is either set to 24V or GND via this chip: http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?keywords=296-19046-5-ND (which is controlled by a PIC micro) Requirements: - An electrical schematic of the new design - A BOM of all the parts required - Gerbers for the PCB daughter board - Same footprint and pin-out as the RT424024 relay. Note, for this SPDT version, the following pins will be tied together (12 & 22, 11 & 21, 14 & 24). They are already tied together on the PCB that the relay currently is soldered to. - Same 24Vdc "coil voltage" (pin 1 always tied to 24Vdc, and pin 2 is controlled externally to be 24Vdc or GND via the external chip mentioned above). - When the relay is not activated, pins 12 & 22 are connected to pins 11 & 21). When the relay is activated, pins 11 & 21 are connected to pins 14 & 24. - Use high current MOSFETs (the lower the turn on resistance, the better! Should be able to handle > 25 Amps continuously (ideally > 50 Amps continuously). - Must have full protection from ESD / over-voltage on every pin. - There must NOT be 'cross-conduction' of the pins. - Must be very reliable - Must be silent switching - Must be the same footprint and pinout as the relay that it is replacing (Mentioned above). Max. height is > 1 inch (we are only limited by the footprint, not the height). - Layout software can be whatever you want as long as I can get the PCB gerbers to send to my PCB house. - BOM should be in a spreadsheet (excel) - Electrical schematic can be in PDF
